Jay Scott is 47 years old & lives in Paradise Valley, Arizona with his lovely wife Jeanne.
Jay's grandmother gave him is first Field & Stream Magazine when he was just a young boy. He can remember reading this specific issue over & over, including all of the ads from cover-to-cover. This introduction to outdoor content was what initially created the passion he has for hunting & fishing today.
After playing collegiate golf at Grand Canyon University, Jay went on to attend Arizona State University in 1997. After receiving his bachelors degree from ASU he then pursued his real estate career. Jay began searching for real estate in the Phoenix Metro area & was specifically looking for future development property. It was in those early years in real estate that he really learned how to spot deals, in order to work with buyers & sellers. Back then, Jay drove a $1,000 truck when looking for real estate deals, as it was all he could afford. Those humble beginnings of trying to make a living are what still fuel him in every aspects of life.
Today, Jay has been involved in all types of real estate sales including: residential, residential land, commercial, income producing properties, property management & ranch land sales. He views his real estate business much like his hunting career, he is always searching for great deals & trying to help connect people with these deals or the information they need, in order to become more successful.
Most of Jay's fishing today is done during the summer months, where he can be found chasing trout with a FlyRod. He loves rowing his own rafts that are set up exclusively for flyfishing. Jay's favorite type of fishing is in moving water, either throwing streamers or dry flies. He has fished numerous water ways in Arizona, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, British Columbia, Colorado & Utah.
Jay began his professional hunting guiding career back in the late 1990's. His initial intent on getting his guide's license was so he could extend his seasons & go on more quality hunts; in the end he knew this would help him gain valuable experience which in turn would help him become a more successful hunter. Over the almost 20 years of guiding, Jay has always made it a point to be good at communicating with clients, scouting out the areas extensively & learning all the tricks & trades of his quarry. Jay's clients have been able to take some unbelievable trophies, including multiple record book elk, bighorn sheep, coues deer & goulds turkey!
As a an intense hunter, Jay can remember all of his the missed opportunities & failures. He gives much of his personal hunting & guiding credit to his partner, Darr Colburn. Darr has an unbelievable knack to find game & to remain mentally tough. Jay's best Coues buck happen to be on a day when Darr wasn't with him, but his personal reflection is it wasn't as rewarding as harvesting some of his smaller bucks with his partner by his side. Jay looks at each experience as a way to enjoy God's creation & to get better at his craft.
In 2015, Jay decided to start the Jay Scott Outdoors Podcast. Jay felt as though he could bring value to the entire hunting & fishing community because of his knowledge, his credibility & the people he had met over the past 20 years of being in the hunting industry. Jay's focus was to produce a podcast based on his personal experience & those of some of the best guides, diy hunters & outdoor leaders he had met along his journey.
In March of 2020, the Jay Scott Outdoors Podcast has grown to be known as the most informative Western Hunting & Fishing Podcast with over 35 MILLION downloads across the web.
